For the Silver Jubilee in 1977 the villages held a combined week of village events. We had a disco in the Village Hall to select the Queen and Princess who then led the procession on the carnival day on a horse and cart from West Beckham Church to Bodham Playing Field. We had a ‘dwile flonking’ evening on the playing field, a mens versus ladies football match with the men dressing as ladies and vice versa and a quiz night. The village day was held on the playing field and started with the procession of floats and walking fancy dress from the church in West Beckham. At the playing field we had various stalls, games, horse rides, Punch and Judy, races, food and music, a fabulous end to an enjoyable week with wonderful community spirit. (contrib. Tracy Toyne)
